The name of the village comes from the first residents, “kefalades”, who were the leaders of settlers of Vyzantium sent by Alexios Komninos in 1182 to live in Crete. It is worth a wonderful swimming in deep waters of the isolated beaches in the northeast of the village.

Plaka is one of the most traditional villages in Crete. It is located 23km east of Chania. It is built at water level of 70m, with less than a mile from the beach and the village of Almirida.
